RUN-OFF MANAGEMENT
FOLKS identified 20 separate locations where water flows into Lake Kegonsa. Some are major inflows (Yahara River and Door Creek) and others only flow for a short time after heavy rains. FOLKS is trying to identify specific projects to reduce the run-off and consequently the amount of phosphorus entering the lake. To help in the evaluation, we provided sampling for P concentrations at a number of different identified sites after heavy rain events in 2022.

FOLKS also formed a committee to study potential run-off at the roundabout site at Highway 51 and Highway AB. We worked with the WI Department of Transportation, WI Department of Natural Resources, Dane County Land and Water Resources, and the Town of Dunn to evaluate the feasibility of a retention pond or prairie plantings near the roundabout to reduce storm run-off.
